Residents attracted to Lakeside Village by same elements today as back in 2014
As early homeowners — the Shepards bought into Lakeside in 2014 — Lynn and Roland Shepard witnessed the first rush of development from their painted yellow brick home on Northwood just off Surrey. It faces a triangular park now nearly completely enclosed with new homes.
“It’s really looking like a neighborhood now,” said Shepard, who was the first homebuyer to sign a contract on a Darling home at Lakeside in August 2013. “It’s come a long way in just a year.
“We’ve got about five or six people closing in the next month,” Shepard said.
“Those early homeowners drop by a lot to check out the progress on their houses, and we talk.
“The view reminds me of Epcot,” laughed Shepard of the homes on the park, “there is such a nice blend of styles, from mediterranean to European and classical.”
While the park serves as the focal point of this grouping of homes (and an important stop for the Shepard’s dog), equally exciting amenities lie just a little further afield.
“We are about 100 yards from the The Shops at Lakeside and the Moviehouse & Eatery. A bunch of early homeowners in the neighborhood want to rent out one of the theaters in the spring when the Moviehouse opens and Avengers 2 comes out.”
The guys, in fact, are already talking about a Saturday/Sunday morning movie club. “Wake up, the first movie, get some breakfast and be back by noon.”
Shepard also enjoys riding the Northshore Trail and he and Lynn have explored the newly poured stretches of the boardwalk south of Phase III (that will connect up with the rest of the Lakeside Trail by the first of the year).
“It’s gorgeous,” Shepard said, “to see the lake through the trees. Lynn and I can’t wait until we can walk to the restaurants in Lakeside Village.”
The Shepards looked all over the Metroplex before purchasing their home in Lakeside.
“We couldn’t find another community that offered amenities like Lakeside,” insisted Shepard, who is an IT consultant who travels frequently, “outside of Legacy and Southlake.” Wife Lynn works in Las Colinas. “When you factor in the access to DFW Airport — especially since I have to catch a lot of 5:30 am flights — Lakeside was a slam dunk.” Shepard believes his home may wind up being his best real estate investment ever.
“On Friday nights in the summer,” Shepard smiled, “Lynn and I sat on our balcony and watched the fireworks going off in Grapevine. I felt like Mark Cuban. There’s just no other place like Lakeside.”
The Shepards remain in Lakeside Village.
